Western Sydney Turkish Association Youth Awards to be Announced on 20 May.

The organisation's annual award ceremony will take place at Sapphire Function Centre on 20 May at 7:30PM.

Australian-Turkish youth under the age of 30 will be rewarded for their achievements in education, sports, arts, culture and business.

On 19 May 1919, the founder of modern Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk arrived in the city of Samsun as a commander of the Ottoman army to inspect rumours of discontent in army ranks and pending uprisings by ultra-nationalist Greek bandits.

Following his arrival, he resigned from the army and lit the light of Turkish independence movement.

19 May is a national celebration of the day that marks the beginning of Turkish independence, and is a day dedicated to the achievements of the Turkish youth.
